Alessandro Schillaci, double bass

Alessandro Schillaci, was born in Catania in 1985, he studied music at a young age and first approached studying classical guitar.Later, he devoted himself to studying the bass, under the guidance of Maestro Sebastiano Nicotra. He continued his educational path with Maestro Daniele Roccato first at the Conservatory of Perugia from which he graduated with the highest honors, and later at the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia in Rome in 2013 where he obtained his diploma in Level II in Music subjects with a score of 110 marks. 

In 2007 he participated in the competition of chamber music of the 3rd International Festival of Voces Intimae in Paola, finishing in first place. 

In the 2008-2009 season he took part in the workshops of the “Italian Youth Orchestra” (OGI). During this period, he had the opportunity to study with Maestros Alberto Bocini and Franco Petracchi in the repertoire of the orchestra. 

Since 2009, Ludus Gravis he has been part of the Ensemble, led by Daniele Roccato where he has specialized in the contemporary repertoire for double bass ensemble. 

He has performed in prestigious Fetival of contemporary music in Madrid (music Hoy), Macerata (Festival of New Music), Bologna (Angelica), Vilnius (Gaida festival), Klaipeda (Music of Changes), Vienna (festival of Krems) , Venice (The biennial), Bergen (Borealis), Narvik (Winterfestuka). 

He has recorded for the label Wergo the Dies Irae Galina Ustwolskaja, for eight double basses, piano, and wooden cube, under the direction of Stefano Scodanibbio and for the ECM label the octet for eight double basses Stefano Scodanibbio. 

He played the first performance of works by Hans Werner Henze, Stefano Scodanibbio, Sofia Gubaidulina. 

He has collaborated with several chamber ensembles and orchestras such as the Italian Orchestra of the Philharmonic Society of Udine, Solisti di Perugia, Perugia Chamber Orchestra (OCP), Orchestra Dell’ Impresario, and Parco della Musica Contemporanea Ensemble (PMCE). 

He regularly collaborates with the group of chamber music “Officina Musicale”. 

He has been playing regularly with the string orchestra “I Solisti Aquilani” and the “Orchestra da camera di Perugia” since 2014.
