Gianluca Saggini, first viola

Gianluca Saggini was the viola player of Quartetto Bernini in his last fifteen years. He has been the First Solo Viola of the prestigious Chamber Orchestra I Solisti Aquilani since 2014, with which he has been performing regularly also as soloist. He studied in Italy with Giusto Cappone and in Germany with Vladimir Mendelssohn (Essen), and Wilfried Strehle (Berlin).

Guest player in the most important Italian orchestras (Teatro San Carlo, Arena di Verona, Symphonica Toscanini, Filarmonica della Scala, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, directed by Maazel, Chailly, Muti, Jansons, Temirkanov, Gergiev …), Saggini has performed in the most important concert halls around the world (Oji Hall – Tokyo, Berliner Philharmonie – Berlin, Auditorium Reina Sofia – Madrid, Teatro alla Scala – Milan) and has collaborated with most important musicians and composers (Giovanni Sollima, Alessandro Carbonare, Christophe Coin, Mario Brunello, Alessio Allegrini, Luciano Berio, Kristof Penderecki, Steve Reich).

He has been playing as guest player with the Berliner Philharmoniker since 2017.

His discography includes Schubert’s String Quintet with the Bernini Quartet and Giovanni Sollima (Amadeus), Mozart’s Youth Quartets with the Bernini Quartet (Universal), the two Mozart Quartets for Piano with the Bernini Quartet and Roberto Prosseda (Universal). His first CD as a soloist Per tutta la durata di un Arco has just been released for Viola and Strings, by the Italian composer Cristiano Serino dedicated to him with I Solisti Aquilani.

He is Chamber Music professor at the State Conservatory in Cesena.

He plays a viola by Giovanni & Francesco Grancino, Milan 1692.
