Gian Maria Lodigiani, violinist

After earning his diploma with high grades at the Nicolini Music Conservatory in PIcenza in 2001, he earned his Bachelor degree in 2004 as well as his Master’s degree in 2006 at the Conservatorium o Maastricht, in the Netherlands.

He was a student of Giuliano Carmignola at the Chigiana Academy in Siena, Italy and attended Masterclasses held by S. Krylov and B. Belkin.

He also attended chamber music classes in Woudschoten held by 

M. Veeze and A. Bruggen.

In addition, he was a member of the Youth Baroque Dutch Orchestra conducted by Jos van Immerseel, with whom he participated in the Flanders Festival, Gelderland Festival; He devoted himself to studying the Baroque violin by attending internships and masterclasses with Daniela Helm  of the Freiburg Baroque Orchester and with Enrico Gatti.

He has been fascinated by chamber music since a noticeably young age. He played with the Arcadia Quartet with a tour in Japan where he represented the city of Cremona. He also played with the UnoZero ensemble at the Trame Sonore Festival in Mantua, as well as the Cameristi della Scala in Crans Montana, Switzerland, the Mantua Chamber Orchestra, the Milan Chamber Orchestra, and the Archissimo Ensemble with the cellist A. Bylsma for the Bach celebrations organized by the Society of the Milan Quartet. He then played with the Leonore Orchestra. 

He collaborated with Symphny Orchestras in Italy and abroad, including the RAI orchestra and the Regio Theatre in Turin, The Fenice in Venice, the Symphonica Toscanini conducted by L. Maazel, and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia, Spain.

In 2005 he was selected by Claudio Abbado to become a member of the Mozart Orchestra with whom he performed in over 150 concerts in the most prestigious music halls in Europe with several soloists, such as M. Argerich, R. Lupu, A. Brendel, M. Pollini, Y. Wang, R. Capuçon, G. Carmignola, I. Faust, S. Mingardo conducted by Claudio Abbado, B. Haitink, J.E. Gardiner, T. Pinnock, F. Bruggen.

He recorded more than 15 albums with the Mozart Orchestra and Claudio Abbado with the label Deutsche Grammophon, with music by Mozart, Schumann, Schubert, Berg, Beethoven, Haydn, Pergolesi.

He is a fierce believer of the deep social impact of music in the world. Indeed, he partecipated in the Musicians for Human Rights projects and Tamino projects sponsored by the Mozart Orchestra in prisons, pediatric hospitals, and in schools.  

He studied to become a trainer in 2018 through the international organization Musicians without Borders, with its headquarters in the Netherlands. Following that, he gave life to laboratories which favour the inclusion for refugees, mentally and physically disabled people, and people of different ages and backgrounds, thanks to the combination of music, movement, and creativity. 

He has been dreaming of a world in which human and social exchange may help one reach their ultimate goal, that is Beauty. 

He loves being in contact with nature and is passionate about natural wines.
